This school project was to design a promotional campaign around a band or artist of our choice. The specific works we had to create were: a poster; either a cd, cassette, or vinyl cover; a VIP concert ticket; a digital ad & banner; and a lyric book. All of these were required to be physically printed out, excluding the digital ad & banner. We were also challenged to incorporate a creative and unique 3D element in our design.
I chose the band Thank You Scientist with the album being their 2019 Terraformer album. My unique 3D elements were hand carved stamps, watercolors, and wax seals. This project was created by using a mix of Procreate, and Adobe’s InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
When starting this project, I found inspiration in the original album cover itself. It has a vibrant mix of orange and blues, as well as a whimsical impression from the contrast of the casual living room set up and the cut open planet in the background. I wanted to capture a similar feeling within my work, while still using the orange & blue color scheme. With this, I leaned heavily into the aspect of travel by carving five different postage stamps and layering them on top of a watercolor painting to give the impression of a well-traveled postcard.
