Tarotmoor
Figma & Procreate
GDVI, Fall 2024
Project Overview
The final project of my GDVI class was to create a semi-functional game within Figma. We were allowed to create any sort of game we wanted and because of this, the requirements were minimal for this project. The only specifications were to make sure it was designed for the iPad Pro 12.9” and included at least two animations.
Each background, element, and gif were all drawn and animated in Procreate. Everything was transferred over to Figma to create the gameplay, using a total of 202 frames. I purposefully designed the game to have an artistic look, with all the lines being sketchy and imperfect. This, along with the low-contrast color scheme, were done in order to build a moderately unsettling atmosphere.
The Game Premise
My game was designed around tarot cards, with the idea being each card was a different level within the game. The main character would enter each of these cards and explore the open world, learning the meaning of the card to complete the level. From the very start, I knew I wanted the main character to be a crow. Crows are often tied to tarot and witchcraft, and are often seen as omens. While there were many tarot card options, I ultimately decided on The Tower card, as it represents “an upheaval” or “great change.” However, conversely it can also mean a “new beginning” or a “fresh start.” This is shown in the gameplay as an actual tower burning and crumbling, and the main character needs to escape with the prince of the tower. Stricken with grief, the prince does not want to leave at first, but is ultimately convinced to by the main character. The prince is grateful once you leave the tower and after talking to his advisor, he now sees that there is potential for a new beginning and a better life.
