2D/3D Artist Magazine

Design for Print

GDIV, Spring 2024
The first project of my GDIV class was to create a magazine based around two artists. One artist had to come from a list provided to us, and the second was entirely our choice. The other specifications were that we had to include one 2D artist, one 3D artist, and the magazine had to be 30 pages long. Since this was a rather open ended project, we had to curate all the source material ourselves.
The two artists I chose are Susan Burnstine and Zaha Hadid. Both are female artists who are known for their unique techniques in their fields. Susan Burnstine is a photographer who specializes in darkroom/black & white photography. She is known for making her own cameras and the distorted haze that is prominent in most of her photos. Zaha Hadid is an architect who is well known for her eye-catchingly unique and organically shaped designs. Because of their distinct specialties, I wanted to create a magazine that not only fit with their works, but was similarly unique, without distracting from their art. To do this, I focused on adding some interestingly textured backgrounds by taking objects similar to tissue paper and scanning them on a printer. The entire project was designed on InDesign, and a bit of Photoshop to help enhance the images and backgrounds.
